Inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Schefflers beloved story, this interactive mat recreates the magical woodland setting where Mouse outsmarts the Fox, Owl, Snake, and even the mighty Gruffalo. Made from soft wool felt, the mat provides a tactile and inviting surface for small world play, encouraging children to use their imagination as they retell the story or invent brand-new adventures. The play elements include the Foxs cosy underground house, the Owls tall tree stump, and the Snakes textured logpile house, all of which are removable and repositionable. This flexibility allows children to rearrange the setting or use the pieces in other imaginative play scenes, supporting problem-solving and creativity. More than just a toy, the Gruffalo Playscape is a valuable resource for early years learning, fostering sensory exploration, storytelling, and social play. It is perfect for classrooms, libraries, or family homes, and pairs wonderfully with The Gruffalo Finger Puppets Set (sold separately) to bring the story fully to life.

Educational Benefits

Encourages storytelling, sequencing, and language development.

Supports sensory exploration through textured wool felt pieces.

Enhances creativity, imagination, and role-play skills.

Builds problem-solving and social interaction through shared play.

Classroom Ideas

Use during storytime to retell The Gruffalo with interactive play.

Encourage children to create their own endings using the play mat pieces.

Pair with puppets to develop literacy and drama activities.

Incorporate into small world play stations for hands-on learning.

Safety & Information

Ages: Suitable for ages 3+.

Measurements: Length 80 cm, Width 52 cm.

Weight: 1.25 kg.

Material: 100% wool felt, handcrafted.

Information: Official Magic Light Pictures collaboration; trees and logs are removable for interactive play.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0626/7633/6753/files/tatrgrps_the-gruffalo-play-mat_v1_2.jpg?v=1768371385
