There Was An Old Lady Book is a classic story with clever cut outs. This 16 page children’s book measures 28.5cm square when closed. Bright and bold illustrations help tell the classic folk song of the lady who swallows all sorts of creatures, each one larger as the story goes on. She ends up in such a predicament! The die cut pages allow a snippet of the next illustration to be seen, providing children with clues as to what the Old Lady might swallow next. This feature also allows the children to memorise the story.

Children will delight in this fun and intriguing story with plenty of rhyming, lyrical wording and repetitive sentences. This is a great way for children to explore literacy and language concepts in a fun and engaging way. Reading and sharing stories with children has so many developmental benefits. Children’s books foster and encourage the familiarity of sounds and word language, the way sentences are structured as well as the expansion of vocabulary. Children’s curiosity and imagination are sparked, as well as their understanding of empathy when they’re able to put themselves in the place of others to explore identity.

Reading to children also allows listening skills and concentration to develop, both of which flow into other areas of the learning curriculum to benefit children academically.
