Description

A beautiful set of colourful wooden blocks. These open ended blocks are made from sustainable rubber wood. They are coloured with natural dyes, and not painted so you can see the natural grain of the timber showing through each block. This set of colourful wooden blocks includes a variety of shapes. Perfect for stacking, sorting and open-ended building. Supplied in a wooden tray measuring 55cm wide x 42cm long. Please note the colours of these blocks may vary. These blocks are perfect for family groupings in early childhood environments, toddler rooms as well as for older children. Blocks support learning in young children. Socially, block play encourages children to make friends, work in a group and cooperate with each other. Physically, block play helps children to develop motor skills, build strength in their fingers and hands, and increase hand and eye co-ordination. They also help children to develop skills in design, representation, balance and stability. Block play can also help to promote language and communication skills, as young children describe and play with their constructions. Basic maths is also developed as children add, subtract and multiply the blocks. Physics is learnt through gravity, balance and also geometry. Blocks make great loose parts and are an integral part of any STEM and STEAM based activity.

Creatively, blocks also allow children to design their own constructions and build their own original designs. Blocks can also be used in dramatic play – a simple block can represent almost anything in creative play. Playing with loose parts promotes creative thinking, invention and problem solving. The materials or parts do not have specified uses or come with instructions. They are open ended and can be used with a variety of other resources. They can be built, redesigned, balanced, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in endless ways. Large or small, size does not matter either. There is no right or wrong way to play with loose parts. Children can explore dramatic play, maths, science, physics, pattern making, sorting, engineering, language and communication. Perfect for STEM and STEAM activities. These type of resources help children to understand how the world works through exploration and problem solving. As there are no set instructions, these open ended resources can be almost anything. Texture, colour, weight, line and shape are all explored in complex play. This type of play is suitable for both group and individual learning, with children being able to lead solve problems with creative thinking.
