PLA stands for polylactic acid and is a sustainable 3D printing filament and one of the most popular and commonly used 3D printing materials. It is great for prototyping, casting molds, concepts and mock-ups. It is suitable for use in school environments. PLA is environmentally friendly and biodegradable PLA tic, with a shiny, glossy finish.

Why would schools use ABS instead of PLA In some cases, ABS filaments are preferred over PLA filaments. This is when a more sturdy and hard print is required, for instance for machine or car parts. ABS has a higher melting point which might be required for some applications so the model doesn’t melt. ABS is more durable for when a longer lifespan is required. PLA is best for projects which are not mechanically or thermally demanding.
