20-Bead Sensory Rekenrek

This 20-bead sensory Rekenrek has grooves in the red beads so you don't just see red, you can feel it too! Grooves help all students by adding an additional way to experience numbers, and also make Rekenreks accessible for the visually impaired. Rekenreks are a great tool for early maths concepts in the classroom. With two rows of 10 beads in red and white, the Rekenrek can be used as a visual aid to explain concepts such as counting in 2's, 5's, simple addition and subtraction, number sense and subitising. By breaking up the row of 10 beads into 5 red and 5 white beads, it allows students to make a mental image of numbers. Using 5 and 10 as anchors for counting, adding and subtracting is more efficient than counting one-by-one. Students will discover number relationships and develop a variety of addition and subtraction strategies, including doubles plus one or minus one, making tens, compensation. The textured red beads enhance multi-sensory engagement and assist students with additional learning needs in developing strong number sense through consistent structure and routine.
