The Lacing & Threading Kit is a wonderfully open-ended and hands-on resource that encourages creativity, fine motor skill development, and sensory exploration in early childhood settings. Ideal for both individual and group learning experiences, this engaging kit allows children to explore threading, weaving, and pattern-making in a tactile and meaningful way.

The weaving frame features a wooden construction with three metal mesh panels that are easy to assemble. The sturdy wire mesh is perfectly sized for little hands to practise their threading and weaving skills.

Children can use the Lacing & Threading Kit to strengthen hand-eye coordination, bilateral coordination, and fine motor control-skills essential for tasks like writing, buttoning, and tying shoelaces. The open-ended nature of the kit supports imaginative expression and creative storytelling through the use of colour, texture, and form.

This kit includes:

  • 1 x Three Panel Weaving Frame (ACH8618)
  • 1 x Assorted Ribbons 35g (SH35R)
  • 1 x Threading Laces (EC202)

Educational Benefits:

  • Develops fine motor precision and control through the repetitive actions of weaving and threading, preparing children for writing and everyday self-care tasks.
  • Enhances spatial reasoning, hand-eye coordination, and bilateral integration-key components of early mathematical and scientific understanding.
  • Builds sensory awareness through tactile interaction with varied textures and materials such as fabric, lace, ribbon, and natural items.
  • Encourages persistence, problem-solving, and sequencing as children plan and execute their weaving patterns.

Classroom Activity Ideas:

  • Establish a rotating fine motor station where children experiment with weaving different textures such as ribbon, wool, or nature-based materials like feathers and leaves.
  • Incorporate early mathematics by asking children to create repeated patterns or count the number of threads used across each row.
  • Invite children to work collaboratively on a shared weaving design as part of a group art project, supporting turn-taking and teamwork.
  • Connect weaving to literacy by encouraging children to create a visual representation of a story setting or character.
  • Encourage children to use descriptive language and storytelling as they explain their woven creations to peers, developing oral communication and expressive vocabulary.
