Having a friend is important to small children. In this lovely picture book we meet Andrew who has no one to play with. One day a stray cat scratches at the door and Andrew and his mum give it milk, and encourage it to play for a while. Andrew is very rough and so the cat runs away. While searching for the cat Andrew encounters next door's dog who is too boisterous and makes him run home, frightened. That night the cat returns, and because she's treated more gently this time decides to stay. A most satisfying book, with a clear message about treating animals carefully, and a safe and happy ending.
